Szczyrk Mountain Resort is one of the largest ski resorts in Poland. Suite no. 021 is named after Slovak singer, musician, composer and musical actor Pavol Habera. He became significantly popular in the 1980s as the leader of the Team band, later through his solo career and also as a critical judge of the Slovak Superstar TV show. During the HABERA & TEAM TOUR 100, he and his band stayed in this suite.
The attic space room no. 310 is dedicated to the first Slovak in space, Ivan Bella. He flew into space on the Soyuz TM-29 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 20th February 1999, becoming the 385th person in the world to do so. He spent 7 days, 21 hours, 56 minutes and 19 seconds in space, completing 125 orbits around the Earth and participating in 6 research tasks in the fields of medicine, biology and physics.
We were honoured to welcome Martina Moravcová, the best swimmer in Slovak history and one of the most successful swimmers in the world to Grandhotel Starý Smokovec. She won a total of 67 medals – 2 Olympic, 22 World Championship and 44 European Championship medals. During her active career, she broke 3 world records, 16 European records and 207 Slovak records. Room no. 117 is dedicated to her in our hotel.
Suite no. 305 is dedicated to Miroslav Donutil, a popular Czech actor and humorist. He has played in various popular films and series that are known to several generations. His most known films include: “Pelíšky”, “Černí baroni” (The black barons), “Doktor Martin” (Doctor Martin) and “Román pro muže” (Novel for men), which was shot in the High Tatras. “Atlas vtákov” (Atlas of birds) released in 2021 is one of his latest films where he played the main role.
Deluxe family room no. 213 is dedicated to Daniel Hevier, a Slovak poet, prosaist, lyricist and artist. It was mainly his legendary songs that he has written for the well-known Team band with singer Paľo Habera which have become very popular. In addition, he has been writing poetry and prose for children and youth and painting pictures for more than 30 years.
His family room includes literature for children, a list of songs that he has written for the Team band as well as the sheet music and the lyrics of one of his greatest hits – “Severanka” (The Northener). Above the sofa, there is his paining depicting the Tatras, his school report of primary school class 9 and his portrait from the childhood.
Suite no. 221 is dedicated to a great lady and charismatic actress – Emília Vášáryová. She has played over one hundred characters during her life. It was the embrace of the beautiful Tatras, where one of the most romantic films of the Slovak cinematography – “Copper Tower” was shot.
Suite no. 105 is named after a big lover of the Tatras – Vlasta Burian. The king of comedians and the father of Czech humour and film comedy was a loyal client of our Grandhotel. The keen sportsman couldn’t miss the opportunity to climb to the Zbojnícka chalet while staying in the Tatras.
Suite no. 121 is dedicated to eminent sports legends – Dana and Emil Zátopek. They went down in the history of sport as Olympic winners, world champions, holders of titles, records and various awards. Emil Zátopek was known as a “great eater” at our hotel.
Suite no. 205 is dedicated to Czech pop and musical diva Lucie Bílá. Her casualness, humour and willingness to help those who need it most make her one of the most popular personalities not only in her home country but also in Slovakia. Grandhotel has already been honoured to welcome the holder of multiple prestigious awards in the past.
